MASTER SERGEANT

JACK HINZMAN

When we found out we had a VETERAN in our community that served in WWII, KOREA AND VIETNAM, we knew we had to hear his story.

We listened, and then made him his own custom Hometown 803 US Air Corps Master Sergeant hat.

US ARMY AIR CORPS

THE AIR FORCE WAS THE US ARMY AIR CORPS.

Prior to 1947, the Air Force was the US Army Air Corps. Jack entered in 1945 and was an aircraft mechanic critical to ensure the Berlin Airlift could maintain a 24/7 operation to send food and supplies to the allies.

In the 1950's, Jack continued to dedicate himself to serving his country and aiding South Korea in the Korean war as an expert aircraft mechanic.

Finally, as if two tours was not enough, Jack went to Vietnam and road in aircraft on the font lines assisting pilots with his operational aircraft knowledge.

Jack was born in West Virginia and settled in North Carolina where he had a son and daughter. Jack now resides in Lexington with his son and daughter in-law.

Christmas Eve Dinner for Truck Drivers

In the month of December 2021, Hometown 803 donated a portion of each sale to say THANK YOU to Truck Drivers! On Christmas Eve, we headed out to Loves Truck Stop on Interstate 20 and Longs Pond Road. We passed out restaurant gift-cards, freshly baked cookies and plenty of handshakes and hugs to truck drivers from near and far!

Truck Drivers are the connective tissue of our supply CHAIN

Each time we go to the store and take a product off the shelf, a truck driver worked tirelessly to get it there. Especially now, during the pandemic, truck drivers are working substantial hours to make sure we have what we need. We talked to truck drivers from all over America who had been gone from home for many weeks or even months at a time! Most were not going to be home for Christmas the next day. Let's not forget the sacrifices they make day after day to ensure we have what we need for our families.

TRUCK DRIVERS ARE INCREDIBLY HUMBLE AND KIND PEOPLE

We talked and donated meals to more than 35 truck drivers on Christmas Eve. We were pleasantly shocked to find out many of the truck drivers wanted to donate their own money to buy more truck drivers dinner. We ended up staying there much longer than we thought because donations kept coming from the truckers themselves. We kept buying more gift-cards and kept saying thank you to truckers!

LESSONS IN GIVING ARE IMPORTANT FOR OUR CHILDREN TO LEARN

Opportunities for life lessons can be abundant during the holidays and we thought was important to include our community's children too! On Christmas Eve, the day before they would be unwrapping many gifts, children of our community gave back, witnessed, and participated in kindness and selfless acts. They became educated about a member of our community they had no idea makes a daily Impact on their life.
